Project Details
The brief for this project was to design a four bedroom house, which suited the steeply sloping site in Brisbane, QLD. The site posed the greatest challenge as it fell away from the road at a gradient of 1 meter in 4 meters, and had views which faced directly west. As the site was so steep, the house was stepped down the site across three levels.
The first level has the master suite and entry, then via a half flight of stairs leads down to the main living area. On the second level, an open plan living arrangement was employed to achieve a feeling of spaciousness to the elevated living zone. The lower level houses the additional bedrooms and a separate living area which opens out to a ground floor patio area and connects you to the yard beyond.
Best Construction Idea
Through the use of deep eaves and screening, the West orientated views were maximised whilst minimising the afternoon sun. Because this house is spread across multiple levels and has been carefully zoned; as you pass through, it leaves you with the impression of being larger in size than its 300m².
